Regensburg – INSYS icom, leading technology partner for industrial data communication and M2M technology, has doubled the operating range of broadband routers from its INSYS SDSL series to up to 15 kilometres. The signal range is contingent on the telephone wire quality and diameter. The range of the INSYS SDSL router has been verified in field-tests with real telephone lines with a 0.8 mm diameter (0.5 mm²) which had already been mended in several places.

Pairs of INSYS SDSL routers connect local networks by establishing two parallel SDSL channels with bit rates of up to 10.4 Mbit/s via standard telephone wires. The industrial-grade devices can be used to integrate remote Ethernet devices or complete networks into another network.

Simultaneously transmitting network data and serial data (RS232) via SDSL, the routers from INSYS icom are a quick substitute for dedicated serial data lines. Dependent on the specific setting, two units can establish a dedicated line and thus form a transparent connection of networks (bridging, Ethernet extender) or act as routers connecting two separate network segments.

The devices are configured via a web interface. A quick-start page facilitates initial start-up. An integrated firewall and VPN functionality ensure secure data transfer. Addresses are managed by means of NAT and DHCP. The routers can be easily configured locally or remotely from the browser.

An integrated sandbox in an embedded Linux environment enables users to start scripts and programs directly on the device as well as collect and process data without impairing the router functionality. INSYS SDSL routers are ideally suited for remote maintenance solutions in waterworks, in the networking of transformer stations, and in smart grid applications.
